Dan Andersen is Your Local Southern Downs Building Designer
Daniel Andersen is a local Stanthorpe building designer with over 11 years national and international experience. Born and raised in Toogoolawah, Dan has spent his career designing modern, practical homes across South East Queensland. Living on the Granite Belt means he designs for conditions he lives with himself: frosty winters, hot dry summers, bushfire mapped land, tank water and blocks measured in hectares. Dan will partner with you and your builder to bring your ideas to life. Submit your details below to request an obligation free discussion with a designer.
Designed for the Granite Belt, Not the Coast
A plan drawn for a Brisbane block does not perform in Stanthorpe. The Southern Downs sits in a real heating season during summer, while the coast sits in the far milder zone.
Dan designs around that with living areas placed to collect low winter sun, eaves sized to block the summer sun, insulation and glazing specified for warmer zones, and floor plans that let you heat one zone in July rather than the whole house. Queensland’s 7 star requirement also offers no outdoor living area concession outside the tropical zones, so here the design itself has to earn the rating.
Southern Downs Regional Council
Council runs its own planning scheme, and the region sits outside the South East Queensland Regional Plan entirely. Township setbacks generally come from the Queensland Development Code, while rural and rural residential setbacks come from the Southern Downs scheme instead. Council is also part way through a full scheme review, so where your land sits today and where it may sit under the new scheme are two different questions.
Dan provides his building design services right across the Southern Downs area, and whilst he lives in Stanthorpe, he happily travels to Tenterfield, Warwick, Applethorpe, Killarney, Texas, Goondiwindi and as far as Toowoomba.
What Dan Designs
- New homes on acreage and rural blocks
- Renovations and extensions, including cottages, farmhouses and Warwick Queenslanders
- Secondary dwellings for family, farm workers or short stay accommodation
- Decks, verandahs, garages, studios and shed conversions
Simplicity and function sit at the base of Dan’s approach, and his knowledge of how homes get built out here lets him factor your budget in from the start. To keep your project moving, we work closely with engineers, town planners, surveyors and certifiers.
